All Magnum Square Prints are signed or estate-stamped on an archival label (to ensure quality and preservation) that is affixed to the back of the print, and includes each image’s accompanying text. All signatures are authentic and signed by the photographer’s hand. Our frames do, however, hide the signatures and stamps.
All Magnum Square Prints are signed or estate-stamped on an archival label (to ensure quality and preservation) that is affixed to the back of the print, and includes each image’s accompanying text. If a print is ordered with a frame, this signature or estate stamp will no longer be visible and an additional unsigned or unstamped label will be placed on the frame’s backing.
While all prints are signed or estate stamped, this will be hidden during framing. An additional text label (without the signature or estate stamp) will be affixed to the back of the frame. The signed or estate stamped print is framed in a manner that allows the customer to remove or reframe the print without damaging the label.
All prints are archival quality and are approved by the photographer. We work closely with photographers and estates to ensure that all editions are presented according to their intentions. To be precise, these are digital C-Prints on Fuji Crystal Archive Matte paper.
We aim to provide prints of the highest standard that maintain their beauty and value for years to come. Magnum Square Prints are printed on Fuji Crystal archive paper, which minimizes fading. The accompanying text labels as well as all supporting materials are archival, meaning that they are acid-free and will not damage the print or affect its longevity. The usual precautions should be taken to retain a photograph’s depth of tone and contrast, and we recommend that a photograph should not be hung in direct, continuous sunlight.
An estate stamp is used to signify authentication (in lieu of a signature) and is issued by the estate of the photographer (photographers who are no longer alive are represented by their estates). All estate stamps are applied individually by hand.
For Magnum Square Prints, the paper size is square, 6 x 6 in (15.24 x 15.24 cm). The image size is 5.5 in (14 cm) on the longest side. Images will not be cropped but will instead have white borders, as seen on the Magnum website during a sale.
The edition is not limited by quantity, but limited by time. Each Magnum Square Print sale runs for approximately seven days. Once a sale has concluded, the prints featured in the sale will never again be available for purchase from Magnum in the same size and format.
No, all Magnum Square Prints are produced as digital C-Prints that have been proofed and approved of by the photographer or their estate.
Unfortunately, we are not able to fulfill custom signing requests for Magnum Square Print orders.
The color of your print may differ from the color reproduction of any given computer screen as all computers are calibrated differently. Computers are also lit from behind, which can affect the level of brightness of an image.
Prints are made throughout the sale and signed by our photographers around the world or stamped by their estates.

All orders will be processed as quickly as possible. If you have ordered a Square Print during the sale, your order will be dispatched between the end of the sale and December 15, 2023.
For orders containing only unframed prints: all orders will be dispatched by December 1, 2023.
For orders containing any framed prints: all orders will be dispatched by December 15, 2023.

We use hand-crafted black or white obeche wooden frames (w: 3/4" h: 7/8"). Magnum Square Prints are framed with a white, archival and made-to-measure mat. The prints will then be sealed using archival paper backing. They are wired, ready for hanging with wall-friendly footers. Please note, the photographer’s signature or estate stamp will be hidden by the framing.

All frames include UV plexiglass, which comes with ~99% UV protection. All products used in framing are archival quality: Japanese hinging tape, archival text labels and backing papers.
Custom frames are handcrafted by expert framers who give them a contemporary feel. Due to material and hand finishing, all custom frames are unique, and will never look exactly the same.
Frames are made as soon as signed prints are received from respective photographers and stamped prints from respective estates. Because frames are custom made they will typically ship later than unframed prints.
No! All Magnum Square Print orders ship separately from other items purchased from the Magnum Shop. If you have ordered other Magnum Shop items, together with your Magnum Square Prints, we will treat them as separate orders and ship them separately. We will ship the other items out as quickly as possible. You will receive an email with a tracking number as soon as each shipment is ready.

NFTs

NFT stands for ‘Non-Fungible Token’. It is a unique digital asset that is bought and sold on the internet, frequently using cryptocurrency, and stored on the blockchain. Like a print or painting, an NFT cannot be split into smaller units. Its value derives from being a publicly verifiable piece of digital artwork, where ownership can be clearly attributed.
Magnum is releasing 76 NFTs for sale by auction on Foundation marketplace. Each NFT will be listed for a minimum price of 1ETH (Ethereum). Once someone places a bid on an NFT, an auction lasting 24 hours will commence, with the NFT being sold to the highest bidder.

To buy an NFT from Magnum, you will need to connect a crypto wallet to Foundation, and ensure that you have enough ETH to bid on the works that you want to own.
Foundation is a marketplace for NFTs that allows creators to list and sell their work on the blockchain. You can learn more about Foundation here
You will need a crypto wallet—which stores your cryptocurrency and NFTs—and some ETH, the cryptocurrency that the auction will be held using. Popular crypto wallets include Metamask and Coinbase.

You will also need to convert currency (FIAT) to ETH in order to bid. Gemini, Kraken and Coinbase are popular platforms to do this.
The NFTs are being released in drops of 12-13 photos at a time. Once the NFTs are released, anyone is free to make a bid with prices always starting at 1 ETH. As soon as someone makes a bid of 1 ETH or more, an auction lasting 24 hours will commence.

The highest bidder after that time will win the auction and become the owner of the NFT once the transaction is complete. If, during the last 15 minutes of an auction a higher bid is placed, the auction will extend for 15 minutes until no higher bid is placed and the auction is complete.

Any of the NFTs listed with a ‘reserve’ are open to a bid - with a reserve of 1 ETH. Bids must start at 1 ETH. For NFTs that are not yet released, but don’t say reserve, it is possible to make an offer. Offers can be for any price and last for 24 hours. During that 24hr period, the owner of the NFT has the chance to accept those offers before the NFT has been made available for auction. If the offer is not accepted, you are not charged.
When purchasing an NFT you will incur costs known as gas fees when converting FIAC to ETH and when minting your NFT.

Gas fees are a charge that compensates for the energy usage when completing a transaction on the blockchain. Gas fees fluctuate depending on the number of people using them, so be sure to check a gas tracker before making a transaction to make sure you are getting the best price.
Energy consumption with digital transactions remains high — and the industry is working to dramatically reduce its impact. Magnum’s transactions will be in ETH, which has plans to reduce its energy consumption considerably in the near future.

As Magnum Photos embarked on this project, it launched an investigation into the environmental impact of NFTs and digital blockchain technologies. During its previous collaboration with Obscura, it engaged with a consultant to advise on the different methods available to offset the carbon emissions that the process incurs. As such, Magnum will donate a portion of its income from this project to offset the energy use it incurs.
