Description

Magnum Photos is proud to partner with Light Society to deliver a workshop with Magnum photographers Jonas Bendiksen in Beijing, China between April 6–10, 2024.

By joining this workshop you receive guidance on your photographic style, develop a distinctive approach to your subject and work in a group setting with others. Participants will come together on the first day for a lecture on visual storytelling by Jonas. The following three days, they will be split into groups and will receive feedback on their work in group portfolio reviews.

You will be tasked to work on a short assignment for five days and receive daily feedback in group settings and on one-to-one with Jonas to define a topic and how to represent it visually. The last day of the workshop will explore editing and sequencing strategies on how to tell a story in a compelling way.

“I’m interested in any photographers that want their photography to do something. Whatever that is… To make the viewers feel something? To awaken curiosity about something? Or it could be photography that aims to share something with the viewer, or to explore something the photographer is passionate about. It needs to document something, or to pose simple questions. I will always be attentive to the visual and aesthetic qualities of the work, but I think it is also essential to focus on what the photographer’s intentions are, and how the two elements can work together.” – Jonas Bendiksen
