Description

Join Magnum photographer Mark Power for a workshop over 5 days in Tirana, Albania as part of the Inside>>Out program.

This in-person photography workshop is designed to offer you strategies and advice on editing, sequencing, and presenting an existing project. You will work in groups as well as in one-to-one sessions with Mark, all with the goal of defining your own visual approach.

Over the first four days, you will be tasked to craft a narrative of the photographic project you have been working on ahead of the workshop and narrow your edit. On the last day, you will design and produce a basic, DIY book dummy which draws on what you’ll have learned about editing, sequencing, pacing, relative sizes of images and plain white space.

As well as giving feedback throughout the workshop, Mark will also share insights on his own work through a series of lectures, touching upon subjects such as editing and sequencing (using the four volumes of ‘Good Morning, America’ as examples), building an idea from a passing thought into something tangible and complete, and publishing work as a photobook (looking specifically at the example of The Shipping Forecast, which has recently been republished in an expanded form).

We aim to create an atmosphere of openness and friendly, constructive criticism, where participants are free to brainstorm ideas, experiment, and challenge.

This workshop is open to photographers and visual artists interested in experimenting with the myriad possibilities of the medium under the guidance of a Magnum photographer whose own practices have been recognized as innovative and experimental.
