On assignment to cover the AIDS crisis gripping the island of Haiti, Jonas Bendiksen became acquainted with many individuals living with the disease and made documentation of their experiences before and after starting antiretroviral therapy. Of his work in Haiti, Bendiksen says: “A lot of the work I do is about trying to reduce global statistics to the level of an individual, instead of talking about how many millions do this or do that.” The resulting images are an intimate view into the lives of those struggling with a disease stigmatized by so many around the world.
