Description

Werner Bischof was introduced to graphic and photographic technique by his teachers, and became a pioneer of both. Hans Finsler was one of Werner Bischof’s most important mentors, and a pioneer of “New Photography.” Another important figure was Alfred Willimann, who taught responsibility and quality; clarity and consistency of thought; and action and judgment. Their teachings left an imprint on the young photographer, who continued to explore the photographic medium throughout his career.

This contact sheet contains photos of streams: darkroom experiments and drawings by Werner Bischof, created in Zurich, Switzerland, in 1941.

Werner Bischof joined Magnum Photos in 1949.
