Bob Henriques evoked the spirit of the 1950s and 60s with his portraits of the era’s defining figures, from Fidel Castro and Martin Luther King, Jr. to actors like Shirley MacLaine, Katherine Hepburn and, perhaps most famously, Marilyn Monroe. Henriques captured Monroe’s 1950s fame at its most fevered, including this image from the set of The Seven Year Itch, featuring Monroe at the height of her powers. As accustomed as his VIP subjects were to the camera, Henriques’ decisive, spontaneous approach produced images marked by candid authenticity.
