Description

This exhibition is a homage to the beauty and allure of reading, bringing together a unique collection of photographs taken by Steve McCurry over his more than four decades of travel. McCurry’s mesmerising images of the universal human act of reading are an acknowledgement of, and a tribute to, the overwhelming power of the written word in general and our relationship to books in particular.

McCurry’s photographs visualise moments and glimpses of people reading around the world. Newspapers, poetry, school books, novels, history books, letters; the information and stories they contain not only educate us but allow us to escape to far away places and live strange adventures.

I don't believe one reads to escape reality. A person reads to confirm a reality he knows is there, but which he has not experienced.
