Magnum Learn: Free Opportunities

Magnum Photos is committed to fostering better access to opportunities within our own organization and the wider photographic industry. Over the past five years we have provided free educational offerings for over 1,200 emerging photographers. We offer scholarships opportunities for many activities across our educational program, ranging from workshops and seminars, to portfolio reviews and our professional practice series.
Current Opportunities:
Armani/Silos and Magnum Photos
Armani/Silos and Magnum Photos are pleased to announce a series of workshops sponsored by Armani/Silos taking place during the exhibition Magnum Photos: Colors, Faces, Places curated by Giorgio Armani. Each workshop is open to photographers aged between 18 and 30 years old, living in Italy. There are 15 places per workshop.

Scholarship for Masterclass in Venice with Sabiha Çimen and Jason Eskenazi
Magnum Photos and the Fondazione Giorgio Cini are proud to sponsor one scholarship for this workshop and are inviting photographers working on long-term projects to submit their applications. We particularly encourage photographers who are underrepresented in the industry, including people from black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds, differently-abled people, those from the LGBTQ+ community, as well people from a range of socio-economic backgrounds to apply for this scholarship.
The successful candidate will be selected by Sabiha Çimen and the representatives of Magnum. The beneficiary will be responsible for covering their expenses to Venice.

Scholarship for Workshop with Mark Power in London
We offer one scholarship opportunity for a photographer working on long-term projects. The successful candidate will be selected based on the strength of the work submitted. We encourage people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, people from black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds and those from the LGBTQ+ community to apply.

Magnum Photos is proud to offer our Magnum Learn Open Day for anyone who may be considering any of our educational programme, with a special focus on our upcoming Long Term Mentorship programme with Gilles Peress and Alex Majoli. This free event will be delivered as a Zoom webinar between 10:00 – 11:00 AM ET, Friday 25 February 2021. You will be able to ask questions of the team and Gilles Peress and Alex Majoli.

PHOTO 2022’s PHOTO Lab with Magnum Photos
Magnum Photos is proud to be partnering for the second consecutive year with PHOTO 2022 to establish a tuition-free educational program for a selected group of photographers based in Australia.
The PHOTO 2022’s PHOTO Lab with Magnum Photos is aimed at preparing emerging photographers for professional practice through a comprehensive series of online guided talks and workshops by industry specialists, delivered via Zoom. As part of a small select group, photographers will have access to national and international curators, artists and educators at the forefront of photography from diverse institutions, experience and backgrounds.
Magnum Learn in Paris
Magnum Photos is delighted to announce its first in-person series of events since January 2020. Join us for a day or the weekend at the new Magnum gallery in Paris for a weekend of portfolio reviews, lectures and discussions on photography.
We offer two scholarships to emerging photographers living in Île-de-France aged 35 or under.

Scholarship for Online Workshop with Newsha Tavakolian
Magnum is pleased to offer two scholarships for this workshop. The scholarships are open to photographers living in Iran. The successful candidates will be selected based on the strength of the work submitted. Please submit a pdf including 2 photo stories and a maximum of 25 images as well as a statement explaining how the scholarship will benefit your practice.
Deadline for applications: Sunday 19 December.

Scholarship for Mark Power Workshop
We offer one scholarship opportunity for a photographer working on long-term projects. The successful candidate will be selected based on the strength of the work submitted.
Please submit a pdf including two stories and a maximum of 25 images as well as a statement explaining how the scholarship will benefit your practice. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
We encourage people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, people from black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds, those from the LGBTQ+ community, people with disability, and people outside the Western world to apply.

Long Term Mentorship Scholarship
One scholarship will be awarded, based on financial need and strength of the work submitted. Please fill in the application form by clicking on the button below. In addition, please provide a statement of intent explaining how the scholarship will help advance your creative work. Please be able to provide tax documents for the previous year.

Emerging Writers in Residence
Magnum Photos’ Emerging Writers in Residence programme is seeking 6 participants who are interested in photography writing and underrepresented in the field due to minoritisation resulting from race, sexuality, gender, class and/or disability. On this FREE 5-week course, take part in a programme of 7 online lectures, and research and produce a written text in the form of journalism, art criticism, oral history, and/or creative writing for publication on magnumphotos.com, and receive a £400GBP financial stipend.
Professional Practice Scholarship: Editorial Photography
One scholarship for the Professional Practice: Editorial Photography with Lorenzo Meloni to an emerging photographer living in an African country, regardless of age.

A scholarship to attend all five workshops of the Professional Practice Series to an emerging photographer aged 30 years old or under. Creativity Works: Photography with Magnum Photos
Creativity Works: Photography is a free annual programme offered to London creatives aged 18-24 at the beginning of their career. This intensive course seeks to equip London’s young creative talent with the connections, skills, knowledge and inspiration to tell stories that are important to them and that inform and impact social change.
Professional Practice Series: Developing Personal Projects
The scholarship is open to a female or non-binary photographer. Applicants should show commitment, motivation and enthusiasm in pursuing a career in photography.
